Hairy Animal, Hair Stories (Self-Portrait), is an ongoing project series of mono-type studies made using Torres’s own hair as a mark making tool to create an indexical trace containing her unique DNA.
Automatism during the planning stage of the printmaking process is at play here as she employs chance. Unthreading and sculpting hair remnants, abstract gestural figures emerge unearthed via paper and ink. Ghostly imprints with abstract narratives seem to morph, taunt, dance and stare with emotion, anxieties and desires.
In 2021, Self-Portrait, was exhibited at The October Gallery, London as part of ‘Apart Together’ group show, a celebration of creativity and the work produced during lockdown.
